The 2022 Lamy Safari special editions are out. I’m probably going to pass on the cream one because I already have a white Safari. But I couldn’t pass up the strawberry. Blame it on liking Strawberry Shortcake as a little girl in the ’80s and growing up in Southern California where it used to be strawberry fields forever before all of the cookie cutter housing developments were built over what was once produce field after produce field. Well, there still are strawberry fields in some parts of California and definitely in Baja California, and there are currently strawberry fields not far from where I live now. I even had a strawberry patch as tiny pre-schooler, and my mom used to make me homemade strawberry milk and strawberry shakes.
While I’m not a complete klutz with spills, I tend to prefer fountain pen ink that’s somewhat waterproof because I usually have a cold drink near where I’m taking notes and those condensation drops can be a drag. I had a sample of Platinum Pigmented Red Rose ink, and it’s a great match for this pen. I like to have one or two pens inked with red. I’m not a professor or an instructor who has to grade printed papers, but I do like marking drafts up with red or using red in my notes or to draw doodles. If you are looking for a good ink match for this year’s Lamy Safari special edition, check this one from Platinum out.
Finally, I am drawn to the matte finish of these Lamy Safari pens. I think it’s cool that Lamy has been making pens with this finish to add to the mix. There’s not much more I can say about the Safari, I’m right handed and have a traditional grip when I write so the triangle section doesn’t bother me. For the price, it’s a great pen, and I don’t mind putting it in my pocket without a sleeve or taking it to the grocery store to check off my list.
