A few months back I saw a deal on the Pelikan M600 on eBay that was below the price of most U.S. retailers. I have never owned a Pelikan, but I have always had my eye on the special editions. I selected a broad nib, and the pen was shipped quickly from Spain via FedEX.
When I opened the box to ink up the pen, the nib was less than optimal. It skipped and was dry on the upstroke. I decided to send the pen off to Gena at Custom Nib Studio to have her put a stub on it. As long as I had a broad nib, I figured that I would take advantage of the tipping material to have a more interesting nib.
Overall, I really enjoy this pen. The color is beautiful, the nib is now great, and the pen seems to be performing well with the waterproof red ink that I enjoy, DeAtramentis Document Red. Sometimes document inks and other permanent inks can be finicky in certain pens, but with this pen, it has been no problem. I’m not really worried about staining since the pen is red and doesn’t have those transparent stripes that are on some of the other M600 models. Writing sample below.
